There was a man and he had a hat! And a rather scraggly beard.

And should we mention the robes? He seemed quite harmless though, wandering along the alley stones. One gnarled had tapped a brick here, a cobble there, apparently muttering to each one he touched. "Yes, oh yes I see. Very well thank you.

Oddly for a man in an alley he was wearing a great many rings, and the robes were of fine make. No hobo, no homeless bum, but a very doddery king!

A king who snorted as he laughed, like he was doing now.

comments

The table that her scarred hands rested upon was stone, the bench as well, and the leaf shadows from the trees above graced the grey, harsh surface with dappled pools of light and shadow.

Today she held a brush in one hand; a long, tapered thing that came to a point so fine it could put a needle to shame. In the other hand she held the merest scrap to press her brush upon. Purple today, yes, purple. She held the scrap forward into a capricious bit of light, she drew it back, watching what the light did to her project.

Much of art was in the watching.

Did the color look right?

Did it look so?

Between shadow and light certainly things shifted. Eyes traced over contours differently, the mind skipped and skimmed across lines; what was a puppet or beloved doll in daylight could so easily become monstrous after dark. What would this careful, small sampling inspire should it be met at dusk when the eyes to see it were befuddled by setting sun? How would they see it in the dark?

How indeed?

Back and forth, patient and sure before touching her brush to a spot. Then to start over once more, observing, weighing, touching once more.

Some studies and experiments could not be rushed after all. That was a sure way to ruin.

comments

Imagine, rain and sun. Water coalescing and pattering down without clouds.

Gentle.

Soft.

So very strange.

Granted, there was nothing wrong with gentle.

Perhaps could give her reasons, and others could try to explain a sun shower...but sometimes it was nice to just sit and wonder.

comments

Not at all. The place she'd intended was small, dark, and dirty. This place was all glass windows, chic lounges, and mood lighting. Kind of creepy but hey, if it made the owner money she wouldn't knock it too bad.

And as long as she could get a drink.

Fake ID passed par at the bar, she got herself a drink and settled down in a corner where she could...

...hopefully be ignored as she muttered to herself and laid her head on the table. "Two...two. There's going to be TWO of them. In one place. What if the universe explodes?!" This was a worry. Bad sci-fi whispered about two versions of one person in the same place.

What if they didn't like each other? Them...selves....ish? What if they got in a fight and BLEW UP THE WORLD?! What if they got along and BLEW UP THE WORLD?

Should she bring a spray bottle in case there was the start of a fight? Would spritzing them be a bad idea?

Of course it was a bad idea.

"Oh hell what was I thinking?!"

Yes, there was one underaged, phasing mutant from the bad part of the universe, nursing a whiskey slowly and calling herself seventeen kinds of idiot.

comments

She was pretty sure that she could salvage enough meat for herself and anyone who passed by, but most of it was going to have to be horse food.

"You two," she said in a grumpy voice, "are sometimes more trouble than you're worth." The horse responded by resting it's befanged head upon her shoulder and huffing out like a true-horse would. Didn't she know that it loved her? She was alpha of the pack! They both loved her! "...You're lucky that you're loving." she informed the nose, then she squatted down to start butchering the mangled corpse. In this world letting things go to waste was a crime.

comments
